The HTC TyTN II is a formidable smartphone handset. It has all the connectivity possibilities of bluetooth, Wifi (WLAN) and 3G and runs Microsoft Windows Mobile.

The handset itself is quite heavy but comfortable to hold in the hand if albeit on the thick side.

Using the TyTN II is a mixed affair. It is much quicker than the Windows Mobile’s of old but there is a noticeable delay when switching applications. The touchscreen however is actually quite good but not as responsive as the Iphone 3G.

Call quality is good and bringing up contacts from the contacts list is quite intuitive, especially with the scroll wheel on the left hand side of the phone. However, I found that bluetooth headset connectivity was a bit of a polava, but that could be because my headset was not 100% compatible with the device.

Battery life is good and will quite comfortably last a day on a single charge. Charging and hands free is via the standard mini USB port.

Emails - this is where I was a little disappointed as being a Windows Mobile device, you would expect this to be an easy task. But even with it’s mix of touch screen and dedicated keyboard, composing emails remain a chore on the device and is not a patch on the Iphone 3G let alone the Blackberry.

At the end, it is a good smartphone for its own reasons, but in terms for emailing and general smartphone use, the user interface still lags behind the others.
